French Tasting That Will Have You Dreaming of Thanksgiving

Today's tasting is perfect in my opinion. Everything that I love is in this tasting. We start with my favorite champagne producer, then a sauvignon blanc with amazing minerality, move to a Pinot/Gamay blend that is borderline chug-able, and finish with a complex, spicy and smokey Premier Cru Burgundy. DO NOT MISS THIS TASTING!

Billecart-Salmon Brut Reserve Champagne, France Fine bubbles which rise slowly, persistent mousse. Straw-colored. A nose of ripe pear with some touches of cut hay. Full fruit, but clean in the mouth. This cuvée contains 40% Pinot Meunier, 30% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay. All wines from the best sites in the department of the Marne, from more than twenty top vineyards in Champagne. The overall composition of this cuvée has not changed much for almost fifty years.

Philippe Raimbault Pouilly Fumé Loire, France | Sauvignon Blanc

The wine from this vineyard exhibits the natural characteristics of the limestone-clay terroir which is loaded with "caillotes" (pebbly chalk soil) and favored with an excellent southeastern exposure. Excellent citrus and stone fruit jump from the glass with a sublet hint of brine and minerality. The minerality carries over to the palate along with great citrus and enough acidity to leave you coming back for more.

Domaine Huards "Envol" Cheverny Rouge Loire, France | Pinot Noir, Gamay Noir Winemakers at the Domaine des Huards since 1846, the Gendrier family farms the vineyard using organic and biodynamic agricultural practices since 1998. Located in Cour-Cheverny, between the Loire and Sologne regions. 50% Pinot Noir 50% Gamay. Light bodied and refreshing with the complexity of Burgundy. Nose of red berries, black pepper, and baking spice. This is the perfect substitute for Beaujolais on Thanksgiving.

Domaine Roger Belland Santenay 1er Cru Burgundy, France

Roger Belland and his daughter Julie represent the fifth and sixth generations of Belland vineyard owners and winemakers in the Cote d'Or. Dating back to 1839, the Domaine consists of 23 hectares across the communes of Les Maranges, Santenay, Puligny and Chassange Montrachet, Meursault, Volnay and Pommard. The nose of this wine is so complex with hints of smoke, earth, and dark fruit. The palate is focused and elegant with balanced acidity, rich mouth feel, and a hint of spice the finish.
